AdultBloom & Wallace Digital Arts LabEducation
About this event
Video has never been more accessible. What once required expensive cameras and complicated equipment can now be done with the device in your pocket. Today’s phones and digital cameras make it easy to capture high-quality video—and even offer basic editing tools right at your fingertips.
But creating a truly engaging video takes more than simply pressing record. Join digital lab instructor Robert Ahrens for an approachable introduction to the fundamentals of shooting and editing video. Whether you’re using a smartphone, DSLR, or another digital camera, learn what to consider before you start recording and how those choices can make editing easier and your finished video stronger.

We’ll explore important basics such as frame rate (FPS), resolution, transferring video from your phone or camera to a computer, and navigating the video editing timeline. You’ll also learn how to create smooth transitions, add music, improve audio quality, and bring your clips together into a polished finished project. We’ll take a look at how AI is changing the world of video creation and editing, too.
While automated tools can be helpful, understanding the fundamentals gives you greater creative control and helps you make better decisions about when—and how—to use them. No matter what editing software you choose, there is a learning curve. This class will give you a practical foundation and the confidence to begin experimenting with your own projects.
The skills you learn can be applied to everything from family memories and travel videos to real estate showcases, product demonstrations, and social media content. Whether you’re completely new to video or have been shooting for years, come discover how to turn your footage into something worth watching.
